The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence Applauds the Passage of H.R. 1

CSGV was only gun violence prevention group to publicly support the For the People Act.

Washington, DC (March 8, 2019) — This morning, the Democratic House majority passed the landmark For the People Act, legislation that returns power to the American people and takes steps to correct a system tainted by dirty politics, crooked elections, and dark money.

H.R. 1 passed 234-193 on party lines. The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence has been honored to partner with activists and public interest groups in supporting this legislation and striving for a better, stronger government and a more perfect union and we look forward to taking this vital fight to the Senate

Coalition to Stop Gun Violence Legislative Director Christian Heyne issued the following statement:

“The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence applauds the passage of H.R. 1. For far too long, Washington has been corrupted by dark money — and no money is darker than the funds funneled from the National Rifle Association (NRA) headquarters to the pockets of politicians in Washington. This money has been used to obstruct the will of the American people. This money has led to an America where 40,000 Americans died in 2017.

“The passage of H.R. 1 is a victory for all citizens. It is a victory for the safety of Americans, for a secure and just electoral process, for a government for the people, by the people. We strongly encourage its consideration and passage in the United States Senate.”
