As the Democratic nominee for governor, Northam will fight to protect Virginians from gun violence
Washington, DC (June 13, 2017) — Tonight, Ralph Northam became the Democratic nominee for Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV) was an early supporter of Northam because of his long-time commitment to gun violence prevention as both state senator and lieutenant governor.
Coalition to Stop Gun Violence Executive Director Josh Horwitz issued the following statement:
“Tonight’s results reaffirm what many of us already knew: gun violence prevention is a winning issue in Virginia. Long before it was politically expedient, Ralph Northam supported lifesaving gun violence prevention policies. He has been a leader in our movement for many years, and I am extremely heartened to see Virginians choose him as their Democratic nominee for governor.”
“The Commonwealth of Virginia is representative of the changing political dynamic in this country. Tonight’s results clearly define the priorities of the resistance, and the National Rifle Association (NRA) should take note. We look forward to working with Ralph Northam on policies that will protect Virginians from gun violence in all its forms.”
