Both parties open to Newport News lawmaker’s bill to help police track stolen guns
Since there’s no requirement for individuals to report stolen or lost guns, and since it is perfectly legal for any individual to sell a gun, buyers would have no way of knowing how a seller, other than a licensed dealer, got the firearm in the first place, said Lori Haas, Virginia state director of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence.
She thinks a broader approach, with mandatory reporting of stolen firearms and universal background checks, would be more effective.
