Gun Violence Prevention Advocates Tell Maryland Police Training Commission: Don’t Validate Insurrectionism

Marylanders to Deliver Petitions to Revoke Sheriff Mike Lewis’ Training Certification

Sykesville, MD−On Thursday, October 23rd at 3 p.m., a group of leading gun violence prevention advocates will deliver thousands of signatures to the Maryland Police Training Commission calling on them to revoke the training certification of Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis.  In August, Lewis threatened “all-out civil war” with our United States government should they attempt to enforce democratically-enacted gun laws in his jurisdiction.  Lewis also suggested he would not enforce gun laws that he personally disagrees with, like Maryland’s ban on high-capacity ammunition magazines.“

Our message is clear,” said Ladd Everitt, communications director for the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence. “A man who advocates ‘Second Amendment remedies’ has no business training Maryland’s law enforcement officers.”

When:  Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 3:00PM

Where:  Offices of the Maryland Police Training Commission, 6852 4th Street, Sykesville, Maryland 21784

Who:  Petition signatures will be delivered to the Deputy Director of the Maryland Police Training Commission, Albert Liebno
