Governor Hogan Signs Extreme Risk Order into Law

Maryland has become the latest state to establish life-saving extreme risk protective order (ERPO) law.

Coalition to Stop Gun Violence Staff Attorney Yasmín Fletcher Issued the Following Statement:

“The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence applauds Governor Larry Hogan for making Maryland the eighth state to enact this important tool.

“Extreme risk laws provide family members and law enforcement a tool to petition a court for the temporary removal of guns from an individual in crisis, before tragedy occurs. And, the research shows that these laws save lives.

“We want to thank and congratulate Governor Hogan, Delegate Valentino-Smith, and all of the elected officials on the enactment of this law. We must also thank Marylanders to Prevent Gun Violence for all of their work to pass this legislation.

“Marylanders have been given a tool to prevent gun deaths across the state, now they must utilize it effectively.
