Answers On Guns Required From Trump’s Supreme Court Pick
President picks conservative originalist Judge Neil Gorsuch to fill vacant seat.
Tonight, President Donald Trump announced his pick for Supreme Court justice — Judge Neil Gorsuch of the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. Gorsuch, a conservative originalist, would fill the seat of the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, an unprecedented nearly year long vacancy.
Judge Gorsuch has a scant record of ruling or issuing opinions on gun-related cases; however, President Trump recently promised the NRA he would only nominate a pro-gun justice. The executive director of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV), Josh Horwitz, issued the following statement on Gorsuch’s nomination:
“While there is no definitive paper trail of where Judge Gorsuch stands on guns, his selection by the NRA-backed Trump/Bannon White House certainly gives us a hint. If Gorsuch shares the NRA’s toxic ideology, he is already at odds with the overwhelming majority of Americans.”
