CSGV STATEMENT ON NEW EXECUTIVE ACTIONS TO REDUCE GUN VIOLENCE
Washington, D.C.—The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV) is pleased to hear today’s announcement by the White House of two new executive actions to combat and reduce the horrific levels of gun violence we experience every day in this country. These newly added executive actions are in addition to the 23 executive orders announced and released by the White House in January. The two new executive orders will: a) Close a loophole that allows felons and other prohibited purchasers to circumvent background checks by registering machine guns, short-barreled shotguns and other dangerous weapons to a corporation or a trust, and; b) Ban almost all re-imports of military surplus firearms to private entities. CSGV applauds the continued efforts of the Obama administration to reduce gun violence and stop the proliferation of military-grade weapons on our streets.

The administration continues to make it clear that the inaction of Congress will not prevent it from affecting change that makes our communities safer.  This is the leadership that America deserves and CSGV encourages Congress to fulfill its responsibility by enacting legislation—like background checks on all gun sales—to complement these important steps by the administration. All Americans deserve to be free from gun violence.

The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence seeks to secure freedom from gun violence through research, strategic engagement and effective policy advocacy.
