CSGV: NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS ON SENATE FLOOR TODAY, WE WILL NOT STOP FIGHTING |
|||
Washington, DC-In anticipation of this afternoon s Senate vote on gun violence prevention legislation, the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV) is calling on supporters to make one final push to contact their legislators while also noting the fight is not yet over.By the time the vote happens this afternoon we ll be able to say that the calls have been made, the advocacy has been done and the fate of this legislation is in the hands of our elected leaders, said Josh Horwitz, executive director of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence. We hope Senators will cast their votes and stand alongside the 90 percent of Americans who support real reforms such as background checks, and if they don t we will continue our fight.
The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence supports the Toomey-Manchin Amendment to expand background checks, as well as tough new criminals penalties for gun traffickers, and the renewal of the federal ban on assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines. To mark the sixth anniversary of the shooting at Virginia Tech, CSGV also launched a series of billboards in Richmond yesterday that call on Eric Cantor to bring gun violence prevention legislation to the floor of the House of Representatives.
