NEW WEBSITE LISTS COLLEGES THAT ALLOW GUNS TO BE CARRIED ON CAMPUS

Washington, DC—The Campaign to Keep Guns Off Campus and the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence have launched a new website, www.armedcampuses.org, that lists the colleges and universities that allow individuals to carry loaded firearms on their campuses. The website is intended to be a resource for students and their parents as they make decisions regarding higher education.

Currently, 25 two- and four-year schools across the country allow the carrying of firearms on their premises (i.e., campus grounds, classrooms, dormitories, etc.). These colleges and universities are located in the following four states: Utah, Colorado, Virginia and Michigan. www.armedcampuses.org provides detailed information about laws concerning the carrying of firearms in each of these states.

Several states—including Texas and Arizona—are currently considering legislation that would force colleges to allow guns on campus. www.armedcampuses.org will be updated on a regular basis to reflect any changes in school policy.

The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence seeks to secure freedom from gun violence through research, strategic engagement and effective policy advocacy.

The Campaign to Keep Guns Off Campus is urging colleges and universities across the country to band together to oppose the gun lobby’s agenda to push guns into college campuses by signing onto a resolution that opposes legislation that would mandate that colleges and universities allow students to carry concealed handguns on campus.
