Washington, DC—Survivors and family members of the victims of the Virginia Tech tragedy today released a statement, a day before the U.S. House Judiciary Committee is to host a forum on legislation to close the gun show loophole. The forum will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 14, in the House Judiciary Committee hearing room, 2141 Rayburn House Office Building.

SUPREME COURT DETERMINES THAT SECOND AMENDMENT APPLIES TO THE STATES
Court Explicitly States That Ruling "Does Not Imperil Every Law Regulating Firearms"

Washington, D.C.—Today, the U.S. Supreme Court found—for the first time—that the Second Amendment applies to state and local governments through the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment in a case that considered Chicago’s longstanding law prohibiting private ownership of handguns. The Court remanded the case to the lower court for further consideration under this newly-enunciated interpretation of the Second Amendment.

Supreme Court Allows Congress to Close Courthouse Door on Victims of Gun Violence

Washington, D.C.—Yesterday, the United States Supreme Court denied review of a Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals decision dismissing claims against Glock, Inc. and RSR brought by Lilian Ileto, mother of Joseph Santos Ileto, following his murder by white supremacist Buford Furrow. Furrow used a Glock 26 "pocket rocket" and to murder Ileto after a shooting rampage in 1999 at the North Valley Jewish Community Center. During that rampage, Burrow shot several children, a camp counselor, and a staff member with a China North knock-off of the Uzi known as the Norinco Model 320.
